Welcome, Mama
Let's get you set up.
Trimester 1Prepare
Know what's next before you're standing in it.
| True Labor | False Labor (Braxton Hicks) |
|---|---|
| Contractions come at regular intervals and get closer together | Contractions are irregular and don't get closer together |
| Contractions get stronger over time | Contractions stay mild or fade |
| Walking or changing position doesn't stop them | Walking, resting, or changing position often stops them |
| Pain often starts in your back and moves to your front | Discomfort is usually only in the front |
This is general education, not a diagnosis. When in doubt, call your provider, that's always the right call.
- Vaginal bleeding
- Your water breaks (a gush or a steady trickle)
- Contractions that follow the 5-1-1 rule (5 minutes apart, lasting 1 minute, for 1 hour)
- Severe or persistent headache, or vision changes
- Sudden swelling in your face, hands, or feet
- A noticeable decrease in your baby's movement
- Fever, chills, or you just feel like something is wrong
Trust yourself. You don't need to justify calling.
